Crispy fried alavangu made with wheat flour was once a 'super star' among the dal vada , uzhunu vada (urad dal), and pazhampori (banana fritter) which beckoned food lovers from the glass cupboards in local tea shops. This evening snack makes an amazing combination with black tea. Here is a simple recipe of home-made alavangu.

1 small onion (finely chopped)

2 green chillies

Curry leaves as required

Salt as required

Oil to fry

Preparation

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients

Add warm water and prepare a batter

The batter shouldn't be too hard or loose

Make small balls from this batter

Heat oil in a pan

Add the alavangu balls and deep fry until golden brown.
