ODI spectators to be served food made by prisoners too

Thiruvananthapuram: Prison inmates are among those assigned to prepare food for thousands who pour into the city on November 1, Kerala's formation day, to watch the India-West Indies One-Day International (ODI). Among items on offer are the lip-smacking kizhi biryani, chappathi, and chicken and tapioca dishes.

The prisons department says jail chefs, and those drawn from among inmates, are planning food for 27,000 people.

Biriyani, chappathi, chicken curry, and tapioca dishes will be prepared at the kitchen of the Central Jail, Poojapura. The Women's Prison joins in with a long list of snacks like vada as well as fried peanuts, dried vegetables etc.

Ten to 12 special counters will be set up on November 1 at the stadium to offer the delicacies made in the jails. Plastic will be entirely eliminated and green protocol observed.Biriyani and chappathi will be among food wrapped in plantain leaves. Plates made of spathe (pala) and jute have been readied for distribution of food items.

Officials said the prices are yet to be finalised.
