Celebrate Navratri with tasty pongal

Pongal is the perfect dish to kick off the colourful and vibrant Navratri celebrations. Here is an easy recipe to whip up a tasty pongal dish for your loved ones.

Ingredients

1/2 cup rice

1/2 cup split green gram

4 tsp ghee

1/2 tsp crushed pepper

1/2 tsp crushed ginger

10 cashews

1/2 tsp cumin

1 pinch asafoetida

2 dried chillies

Preparation

In a vessel, slightly heat the rice and split green gram

Heat ghee in a pan and roast it

In a pressure cooker, add the roasted rice, split green gram, and salt

Pour 4 cups of water and cook well

Turn of the heat when the cooker whistles 4 times

In a wok, heat some ghee

Add the crushed pepper, ginger, cumin, asafoetida, dried chillies, and cashews

Sauté well

Add this sautéed mixture to the cooked rice and split green gram

Mix well

Tastes best when served hot

Pongal can be served with spicy chutney.
