Jackfruit puratiyathu (chakka puratiyathu)

Chakka purattiyathu is a one of a kind preparation; it is slightly spicy and hot, with the sweet of the jackfruit seeping into your tastebuds! Savour it with some saucy mango pickle or fish sauce on the sides, for a scrumptious treat.

Ingredients

1

6 cups jackfruit flesh, cut into small pieces
Salt to taste


2

½ tsp chilly powder
¼ tsp turmeric powder

3

1 cup grated coconut
2 shallots
1 pinch cumin

2 dsp coconut oil
½ tsp mustard seeds

2 dsp onion or shallots cut into small peices
1 sprig curry leaves
2 dry chillies, cut into two
2 dsp grated coconut

Preparation

Cook jackfruit with enough water and salt
Grind ingredients listed under '2' and '3', along with coconut coarsely
Make a depression in the middle of the cooked jackfruit, fill in the
ground ingredients, cover with mashed jackfruit and cook well to steam the coconut mix.
When the ground ingredients have cooked well, blend well with the cooked jackfruit and mash it well
Heat oil in a wok and splutter mustard seeds in it
Add dry chillies, curry leaves, shallots and grated coconut (listed under '5') and saute well
When the coconut has browned well, take off the flame and add to the mashed jackfruit. Mix well and serve
