Neymeen pollichathu

Seer fish or neymeen is always a favourite among the fish lovers in Kerala. Here's a recipe of neymeen pollichathu from our Mrs KM Mathew's collection for this Christmas.

Ingredients

500 gm seer fish/ Neymeen

2 tbsp oil

½ tsp mustard seeds

250 gm shallots (chopped in circular shape)

3 green chillies (split in two)

Curry leaves

2 tsbp chilli powder

½ tsp turmeric powder

1 tbsp fennel seeds (powdered)

2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste (along with turmeric powder and salt)

Salt as needed

2 tomatoes

1 ½ cup water

Preparation

Take the seer fish in a bowl and add chilli powder, ginger-garlic paste. Marinate thoroughly.

Keep it for 30 minutes.

Heat oil in a pan. Add the fish into it.

Fry the fish until it turns golden in colour.

Remove the fish from the pan.

In the same oil, add mustard seeds, shallots, and curry leaves.

Add the rest of the ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilli powder, fennel seeds powder, and salt.

Add tomatoes into it and mix well. Pour some water.

Once the masala comes to boil, add the fried fish into this. Close the lid.

Serve once it is cooked.
