Tasty and healthy stuffed mackerel

Mackerel, rich in omega 3 fatty acids, is one of the highly recommended fishes to be included in the regular diet. They are tasty, nutritious and are easily available as well. Check out this simple recipe of stuffed mackerels which has bags of flavour in it.

6 mackerels

Juice of 1 lemon

Salt as required

Black pepper as required

1 tbsp oil

3 small onions (finely chopped)

6-8 dried chillies

1 ½ tsp cumin

1 tsp black pepper corns

2 inches piece ginger (chopped)

4 cloves garlic (chopped)

¾ tsp turmeric powder

Salt as required

½ tsp sugar

3 tbsp vinegar

2 tbsp water

3 tbsp oil

Clean the mackerels and remove the head and tail.

To debone the mackerel, insert a sharp knife and slowly separate the bone from the flesh.

After separating the flesh from the bones on both the sides, slowly pull out the bone. This technique helps fill in the stuffing without cutting open the fish.

Score the mackerels and marinate with lemon juice, salt, and pepper as required.

To prepare the masala stuffing, heat oil in a pan and sauté the onions.

When the onions become soft and translucent, add dried chillies, cumin, pepper corns, ginger, garlic, turmeric powder, salt and sugar as well.

Lower the flame and sauté everything for at least 10 minutes.

Allow the sautéed mixture to cool down before adding the vinegar and water into it. Now grind this mixture into fine masala paste.

Stuff this masala paste inside the marinated mackerels. Use the remaining masala paste to marinate the fish.

Heat oil in a large pan and fry the stuffed fishes on medium flame.

Take the mackerels off the heat when the flesh is perfectly cooked and the skin is nicely browned on both the sides.
