Prawns pickle


Delicious prawns pickle is one of the favourite dishes lovers of seafood and south Indian cuisine. The fresh prawns enhance the flavour of the spicy pickle which tastes delicious with rice.


1 kg prawns (cleaned)
Salt as required
Turmeric powder as required
Oil as required
2 tbsp garlic (peeled)
1 ½ tbsp ginger (chopped)
½ tsp cumin
1 tsp mustard seeds
Sesame oil as required
1 tsp fenugreek
1 tsp mustard
2 tbsp chilli powder (soaked in vinegar)
½ cup vinegar
1 cup lukewarm water
Salt as required


Marinate the prawns with salt and turmeric powder
Dry the marinated prawns in the sunlight and then fry it in hot oil
In a blender add garlic, ginger, cumin, and mustard seeds
Grind it into fine paste
Heat sesame oil and add fenugreek and mustard seeds
When these splutter add the previously prepared masala paste and sauté well
When the masala turns fragrant add the chilli powder soaked in vinegar
Sauté well
Into it add vinegar and lukewarm water
Add salt as required and allow it to cook on low flame
When the mixture begins to boil, add the fried prawns
Allow it to boil well
Store the pickle in air tight containers when it cools down.
