Spicy fried chicken

Spicy, crispy, fried chicken has always found a special place in the Kerala cuisine. The flavoursome marinade loaded with spices makes this recipe special.


1 kg chicken cut into pieces
2 onions (ground to paste)
2 tomatoes (diced)
1 ½ tbsp chilli powder
2 tbsp coriander powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp pepper corns
1 tsp cumin
1 inch cinnamon stick
8 cloves
1 inch ginger 
8 garlic cloves
1 tbsp white vinegar
Salt as required
2 potatoes (cubed)
Oil as required


Marinate the cleaned chicken pieces with onion paste, diced tomatoes, chilli powder, coriander powder, and turmeric powder
Keep it aside
Grind pepper, cumin, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, garlic, and salt into a fine paste along with white vinegar
Add this paste into the marinated chicken and cook for some time
Add cubed potatoes into the half cooked chicken and roast well
Heat oil in a pan
Fry the cooked chicken pieces to golden brown
The crispy fried chicken tastes best when served hot with pudina chutney or tomato sauce
