Ragi palappam

Ragi is the favorite kind of cereal for those who have been trying to shed some pounds. This low fat red cereal has been used to make various breakfast dishes, including dosa and bread. Our grandmothers relied on Ragi malt for infants considering it's higher nutritional content.

Today we give you an easy ragi recipe with which you can make palappam, a Kerala breakfast favorite. The proportion of ragi flour can be decided as per preference. The more flour you add, the more red the appam will become.


1/4 cup ragi (finger millet) flour

3/4 cup rice flour

1 1/2 thick coconut milk

1/4 tsp yeast

3 tbsp sugar

Salt as required


Mix all the ingredients except salt

beat this well in a blender and keep overnight

Add salt to the fermented batter

Heat concave pan or an appachatti

Pour a ladle full of batter on it and swirl the pan it let the batter spread

Cover with a lid and allow it to cook

Serve with duck roast or chicken
