Fish pie with potato

Fish pie with creamy potato crust is a classic winter dish that can be enjoyed at a family meal. The delicious fish filling is packed with flavors and complements well with the creamy potato. Take a look at the simple recipe of the dish which could be the star of your Christmas feast.


For the filling

3/4 kg fish (de-boned)

2 tbsp butter

1 cup onion (chopped)

4 green chillies (split in half)

1 inch ginger piece (chopped)

1 cup tomato (diced)

Salt to taste

For the topping

4 big potatoes

1/2 cup cheese (grated)

1/2- 1 cup hot milk

2 tbsp butter

Salt as required

Black pepper powder as required

2 boiled eggs (sliced)

1 tbsp melted butter


Preheat the oven to 200 degree Celsius

Cut the fish into big fillets

Heat butter in a pan

Add onions, green chillies and ginger

Sauté well

Add tomatoes and salt as required

Sauté well

Add fish fillets

Mix well and cook with the lid on

When the gravy begins to thicken take it off the heat

For the topping, boil the potatoes and mash it well

In a bowl add the mashed potatoes, grated cheese, hot milk and butter

Beat well until the mixture turns soft and creamy

Add salt and pepper as required

Mix well

In a greased pie dish, spread the fish mixture

Add the chopped boiled eggs

Stir just to combine everything, without breaking up the fish too much

Spread the mashed potato topping over it and line with a fork

Brush the pie with melted butter

Bake in the pre-heated oven until golden.
