Cake with hot custard


Can't decide whether to make soft spongy cakes or creamy custard? You might want to try making them together. This custard cake brings together the gooey goodness of hot custard with subtle sweetness of a sponge cake.


For cake:
1 cup maida
3 eggs
1 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp vanilla essence
2 tbsp milk
¾ cup butter
¾ cup sugar
For custard:
200 ml milk
2 tbsp custard powder
2 tbsp sugar


Heat the milk
Mix the custard powder in little milk to form paste then add it to the remaining milk
Add sugar and cook till thick
For cake, sieve the maida and baking powder together
Beat the eggs with vanilla essence and beat the butter with sugar
Add the butter-sugar mixture to dry ingredients little at a time
Then add the beaten eggs in the same manner and keep adding milk at intervals
Butter the baking tray and line with butter paper
Pour in the cake batter and bake at 180C for 45 minutes
Serve hot with the custard on top.
