Authentic chicken tikka masala


Chicken tikka masala is one of the most popular chicken dishes which is relished by lovers of Indian cuisine around the world. Here is a simple and authentic recipe of spicy and tangy chicken tikka masala.


3 chicken breasts (cut into small pieces)

Onion as required to grill

Bell pepper as required to grill

Oil as required

Garam masala mix (not powdered)

3 bay leaves

1 onion (chopped)

1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

1 tbsp chilli powder

1 tsp turmeric powder

1 tbsp coriander powder

1 tbsp garam masala (powdered)

1tsp black pepper powder

3 green chillies

1 cup tomato puree

1/2 cup cashew paste

For the marinade

1 tsp turmeric powder

1 tbsp chili powder

1 tsp garam masala

1 tsp black pepper powder

1 tsp salt

1 cup yogurt

Juice of half lemon


Marinate the chicken pieces with chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, black pepper powder, yogurt, and lemon juice

Keep it in the fridge for 4 hours

Assemble the onions, bell peppers, and marinated chicken pieces alternatively on a skewer

Grill these skewers well in a grilling pan

Heat oil in a pan

Add garam masala mix (not powdered), bay leaves, chopped onions, and salt

Sauté well

Add ginger-garlic paste, chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, powdered garam masala, black pepper powder

Mix well

Add green chillies and tomato puree

Mix well

Pour some water and cook well

Add the cashew paste

Cook for 10 minutes

Add the previously grilled chicken pieces

Chicken tikka masala is an excellent side dish for roti, naan, chapathi or rice.
