Dates raisin payasam

Different from the slew of payasams that greet you for any occasion, the dates-raisin payasam becomes that sweet diversion that retains the goodness of the good-old dessert, yet rendering it a novelty.

Ingredients

½ cup seedless dates, chopped fine
½ cup raisins
¼ cup poppy seeds
¾ cup light brown sugar
2 tsp ghee
½ cup cashew nuts and almonds
400-500ml milk (or as required)

Preparation

To start with, roast the cashew nuts, almonds, poppy seeds, dates and raisins with ghee in a small pan on medium heat, till an aroma emanates
While on low flame, add in the brown sugar and milk to the dry contents and mix everything together
Bring all the ingredients to a boil, simmering until it slightly thickens for 5-10 minutes
The Payasam can be had hot or chilled
