Watermelon Salad

Welcome to the world of different cheeses and a whole new list of recipes using them!

What is cheese? It is a product made from churned milk. Different varieties of cheese are produced by different kinds of processing of the solid extract from churned milk. Our desi paneer aka cottage cheese is a variety of cheese.

Italians use cheese most in their cooking and it can be eaten cooked or otherwise and any dish turns ravishing when topped with it. Cheese is extremely nutritious too! 100gm cheese contains 24gm protein, 25gm fat, 348kcal of energy, 790mg of calcium and 520mg phosphorous!

There are mainly three different kinds of cheeses: 1. Cream cheese 2. Soft cheese 3. Hard cheese

Each of the above has different categories too, namely feta, mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan, goat’s cheese, ricotta, halloumi, brie, fromage…and so on. We introduce five different varieties of cheese and a few recipes using them.

Watermelon Salad (with Feta Cheese)

Chill the heat and thrill your family with this all new recipe. The water melon salad topped with fine feta cheese tastes yummy too!

Ingredients

1 cup water melon, cut to cubes
2 green chillies, sliced thin
2 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped
1 onion, in round slices
Salt, lemon juice to taste
3 tbsp grated feta cheese

Preparation

Cut the watermelon to cubes.
Combine with green chillies, coriander leaves and onions.
Add enough salt, lemon juice, mix well and cool in the refrigerator.
Top with grated cheese and serve cool.

Notes

The feta cheese: This is a Greek style cheese and in earlier days used to be made from goat and lamb milk. Today the feta cheese is mostly made from cow milk. The cheese prepared is stored in salt water making it salty. Those who like their cheese less salty may wash and immerse it in cold water for 10 minutes.
