So, which dish would win the race for the best South Indian breakfast? Yummy soft idlis or spicy, mouth watering upma? How about a mix of both? Experiment with the left over idlis to make this delicious nutty idli upma.

Ingredients

5 idlis, smashed

3 onions

1 capsicum

1 carrot

3 inch piece of ginger

3 green chilies

25 gm ground nuts

4 sprig curry leaves

4 tbsp coriander leaves

2 tbsp sugar

4 red chilies

2 tbsp coconut oil

1 tsp salt

Preparation

Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds

Add dried chilies and curry leaves, saute well

Add chopped onions, ginger and garlic, saute well

Add roasted and peeled ground nuts to it

Saute until the onions turn transparent

Now add the mashed idlis to it, mix well

Add salt, coriander leaves, capsicum and green chilies

Keep on stirring for 3 minutes and then remove from the stove

Serve along with sauce or chutney
