The natural immunity booster honey is in fact nature's most remarkable gift. In Hinduism, honey is considered as an elixir for immortality. Recommended as a nutritious food in the holy Quran, Ayurveda terms honey as a 'Yogavahi' - a substance, which can penetrate even the deepest tissue and hence, use it for umpteen herbal preparations. Honey is a complete package of vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and carbohydrates - all goodness in one.

Here, Onmanorama has cherrypicked three honey recipes to tempt your palate.

1. Honey Drops

Give your sweet tooth a treat with this home made honey drop recipe. Though it needs an overnight preparation, we say it's worth the wait.

Ingredients

1 cup or 225g butter

4 tablespoons honey

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 and a 1/2 cup plain flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

3/4 cup finely ground sugar or brown sugar

2 eggs

Preparation

In a bowl mix thoroughly butter, sugar, eggs, honey and vanilla

Sieve baking soda and flour together and add it to the above mixture to prepare a dough

Chill it overnight or until firm

Once the dough is firm, roll it into small balls and flatten it slightly with the edge of your palm

Heat the oven to moderate and bake for 10-15 minutes

When slightly cooled, team it up with jam or honey syrup

2. Honey rolls (a Greek dessert)

Honey Rolls are a great tea-time treat. Commonly known as diples, it is a Greek dessert. Diples get their name from the Greek word 'fold'.

Ingredients

4 eggs (separate it into yolks and whites)

2 tablespoons fresh orange juice or lemon juice

2 teaspoons baking soda

3 and 1/2 cups all purpose flour

Oil (preferably vegetable oil)

Ground cinnamon for sprinkling

Chopped cashewnuts or almonds for garnish

For the syrup

2 cups honey

1/2 cup water

Preparation

Beat the egg yolks uniformly and add egg whites one by one while whisking the mix

Add orange juice or lemon juice into baking soda in a cup and blend it well

Add this mix into the egg mixture, and make a soft dough

Keep kneading until the dough blisters and forms bubbles when sliced with a knife

Cover it with a damp cloth and keep it aside for 20 minutes

Take a quarter of the dough at a time and roll them out

Cut them into 4 by 6 inch strip

Drop strips in hot oil, turn immediately and using two forks roll it up into cylinder

Remove from oil when golden brown

Drain on paper towels and cool

To make the syrup

Boil honey and water in a pan and simmer it for 10 minutes

Skim off the froth

Dip the cool rolls into the hot syrup

Place it on cake rack and let the rolls to dry

For garnish, sprinkle little amount of cinnamon and chopped nuts

3. Golden Tea

Just the right drink for a cold rainy day. This magic potion helps cure digestive problems and is also a nutrient-rich recipe to boost your immune system in the sickly monsoon.

Ingredients

1/3 cup of raw honey

2 teaspoons of dried turmeric lemon

Freshly ground black pepper

Preparation

Mix turmeric into honey well to form a paste

Add hot water to this paste and stir till the paste dissolves

Add a squeeze of lemon juice and a tinge of black pepper

Serve it hot
